A shocking case of domestic violence has rocked Amman. Zeina Majali, a 30-year-old lawyer, was killed after being stabbed by her brother inside their family home, authorities say.
The incident has reignited public outrage over domestic violence in Jordan.
The attack
According to state-run Al Mamlaka, Majali was stabbed with a sharp object and rushed to hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries.
Her 35-year-old brother surrendered to police shortly after the attack. Investigators are looking into the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
Background
Majali, from the Al Rashid district, had previously filed a domestic violence complaint against her brother with the Family Protection Unit, the Jordanian Feminist Movement reported.
Some local media suggested Majali was killed while trying to protect her father, though other reports say she was attacked inside her home. Authorities have not confirmed either account.
Mourning and public reaction
Majali’s sister shared her grief on social media: “I am now a body without a soul.”
The case has sparked renewed discussions in Jordan about domestic violence and the safety of women in family settings.
