A newborn baby girl was safely rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a residential apartment building in the Al Nasiriyah area of Sharjah early Friday morning.

Emergency crews from the Al Mina and Samnan fire stations were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:35 AM following reports of a fire in the building. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an air-conditioning unit in the family's apartment had caught fire, rapidly filling the unit with thick smoke.

Brave Rescue Under Extreme Conditions

According to the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, the primary danger to the occupants was not the flames themselves, but the dense smoke which severely reduced visibility and posed a life-threatening risk, particularly for the elderly and young children.

Firefighters split their teams into specialized groups: some focused on extinguishing the fire, while others immediately began evacuating residents. In a dramatic rescue operation, officers utilized ladders equipped to withstand extreme heat to reach the second floor where the family was trapped.

"The danger wasn't from the blaze, but from the thick smoke that lowers the visibility and endangered the lives of residents especially the elderly and children," the authority stated.

Despite the hazardous conditions, firefighters successfully reached the apartment and carried the infant to safety. The rest of the family members were also evacuated unharmed.

Swift Containment

Brigadier Yousef Obaid Al Shamsi, Director General of the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, confirmed that the fire was brought under control swiftly thanks to the rapid response. He noted that the officers' efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments.

"No casualties were reported as a result of this incident," Brig Al Shamsi said. "Firefighters are ready around the clock to save lives and face a wide range of risks to protect the community and safeguard lives and property."

All affected family members were taken to safety immediately following the evacuation. While no injuries were sustained, authorities reiterated their warning regarding electrical safety and the importance of ensuring air-conditioning units and other appliances are regularly maintained to prevent such incidents.
