Pakistani citizens living in the UAE, GCC, and other countries can now import used cars up to three years old, thanks to new government rules.

Two Schemes for Car Imports

The Federal Cabinet approved the Economic Coordination Committee’s December 9, 2025, decision to allow imports under:

  • Transfer of Residence Scheme

  • Gift Scheme

Officials emphasized that imported vehicles cannot be sold or transferred for one year after arrival.

Who Qualifies?

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) clarified that only overseas Pakistanis in the UAE and other countries are eligible. The Personal Baggage scheme is excluded from the new rules.

With over 1.7 million Pakistanis in the UAE and more than 5.5 million across the GCC, this move impacts a large portion of the diaspora, which totals over 9 million globally.

A Controversial Move

Many families returning home want to bring expensive goods and vehicles with them, but some officials have raised concerns about misuse of the facility and suggested stricter monitoring.
