UAE Urges Muslims to Sight Moon on February 28

It’s official. Ramadan 2026 starts on Wednesday, February 18 in the UAE.

The announcement came Tuesday evening after the official moon-sighting committee met and confirmed the crescent moon sighting. The decision was then announced by the UAE Presidential Court.

So yes, suhoor alarms are officially back on.

Crescent Moon Confirmed

As per tradition, authorities waited for confirmation of the Ramadan crescent before declaring the start of the holy month.

Once the moon was sighted, it marked the beginning of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar — which means fasting begins at dawn on Wednesday.

Why Ramadan Is So Important

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam. It marks the month when the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him), specifically during Laylat Al Qadr, also known as the Night of Decree, which falls within the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

Throughout the month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, while focusing on prayer, reflection, and community.

How Long Will Ramadan 2026 Last?

Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the next crescent moon sighting.

Astronomical forecasts in Dubai suggest Ramadan 2026 is likely to be 29 days, but the final call will, as always, depend on the official moon sighting closer to Eid.

For now, it’s confirmed. Ramadan has begun in the UAE.
