Ramadan in the Philippines will officially begin on Thursday, February 19.
The announcement came after the crescent moon was not sighted during scheduled observations, according to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).
So if you’re marking your calendar, fasting starts at dawn on Thursday.
Crescent Moon Not Sighted
In an official statement, the NCMF said moon-sighting activities were conducted in coordination with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Darul Ifta, various Ulama groups, and the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
After verification, the Hilal — or crescent moon — was not seen. As a result, Ramadan will begin the following day, February 19.
A Message to Muslim Filipinos
The NCMF also shared its greetings with Muslim Filipinos across the country and those living or working abroad.
The commission described Ramadan as a sacred time to strengthen faith through patience, compassion, and sincere devotion. It encouraged communities to renew their hearts, support one another, and move forward in unity and peace.
Ramadhan Mubarak to all observing.
