UAE educators can now get a Private Teacher Work Permit to provide tuition classes in the UAE outside of their school hours.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization and the Ministry of Education have launched this permit to regulate the provision of private tutor sessions and to inhibit any illegal private tuition classes.

The permit will help students get extra lessons in case they are having difficulties with their studies.

The new permit will allow educators to provide private lessons to both individual students and a group of students.

Who is Eligible for the New Private Teacher Work Permit?

The individuals who can acquire the new work permit include:

  • Registered teachers in government or private schools
  • Employees in government or private sectors
  • Unemployed individuals
  • School students aged between 15 to 18 years old
  • University students

How to Acquire the Private Teacher Work Permit?

To acquire a private teacher work permit, individuals can apply through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's e-services system, website, or application.

Do Applicants Need to Pay Any Fees to Get the Permit?

Applicants will not have to pay anything to get the private teacher work permit because it is free for two years as long as the applicants sign a 'code of conduct' document approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

The Penalties for Offering Private Tuition Without Permits

Any individual who offers private lessons to students without a private teacher work permit will be penalized according to the Federal Decree-Law Regarding the Regulation of Employment Relationships.

The person will also be penalized according to the executive regulations of the permit, the decisions that regulate these regulations, and all applicable laws in the UAE.

Were Private Tuitions Not Allowed Before the Work Permit?

Private tuition in the UAE was first allowed in 2019, but only for government school students.

The Ministry of Education would license teachers at these schools to provide one-on-one lessons to students at these schools.

Government school teachers were able to register to provide this service and they were awarded by the ministry for doing so.

However, with the new work permit, private tuition will be available for students in private schools as well.
