From June 1, 2025, airport lounge access is getting a shake-up for UAE travellers using Mastercard and Visa credit cards. Whether you're flying out for business or vacation, you'll need to follow new steps to enjoy those comfy pre-flight lounges.

Here’s what you need to know.

Mastercard: App Sign-Up, Fewer Visits, and Spending Rules

Mastercard holders can no longer just show up and swipe their cards. You’ll need to:

  • Register on the Mastercard Travel Pass app — it’s now mandatory for lounge entry.

  • Stick to new visit limits, depending on your card:

    • Platinum: 4 visits per year

    • World: 8 visits per year

    • World Elite: 14 visits per year

  • Spend internationally — at least $1 abroad within 3 months before your visit to keep your access.

  • Note the new lounge calendar — For 2025, lounge visits will be counted from May 1 to December 31, not the full year.

Visa: Digital App Needed and Spending Thresholds

Visa users are also in for changes, with a focus on digital tracking and spending limits:

  • App registration required: You must sign up on the Visa Airport Companion app to get access.

  • Spending matters: You need to hit a certain spending amount within 35 days before your visit. The exact amount may vary by region and bank.

  • Free lounge visits will depend on your card and how much you’ve spent:

    • Platinum: Up to 6 visits

    • Signature: Up to 10 visits

    • Infinite: Unlimited visits (if you meet the spending condition)

What You Need to Do Now

To avoid any last-minute surprises at the airport:

  • Download the apps:

    • Mastercard users → Mastercard Travel Pass

    • Visa users → Visa Airport Companion

  • Register your card through the app before your next trip.

  • Track your spending: Make sure you meet the international spend criteria before lounge day.

  • Know your limits: Check how many visits your card allows and use them wisely.

If you're a frequent flyer in or out of the UAE, these new rules are worth noting — they could mean the difference between chilling in the lounge or standing in line at the food court.
