Everything to Know About the 2-Year-Old Boy's Death in Sharjah

A serious investigation is underway in Sharjah following the death of a two-year-old boy who fell from a staircase area in a residential tower. Local authorities have begun questioning two neighboring Indian families in connection with the incident, which was reported on Monday, June 1.

According to Advocate Preeta Sriram Madav, who is assisting the families, the two households—one from Kerala and the other from Tamil Nadu—were taken in for questioning on the day of the tragedy. The families reside in the same building where the incident took place.

Details of the Incident

Initial reports suggested that the toddler, identified in early accounts as Pakistani, had wandered out of his family's apartment. He reportedly fell through an opening near a staircase on an upper floor of the residential tower.

Advocate Madav provided further context, stating that two young girls, one from each of the Indian families, had been playing with the boy moments before the fall. All three families are neighbors within the tower.

Ongoing Investigation

As of June 2, 2026, Sharjah police are actively reviewing CCTV footage to reconstruct the events leading up to the child's death. The case remains under active investigation.

Investigators are currently focusing on several key areas:

  • Analyzing surveillance footage to determine the timeline of events.
  • Interviewing witnesses, including the families involved.
  • Inspecting the building's layout to assess how the child accessed the restricted staircase area.
  • Determining whether existing safety measures in the building met required standards.

Legal Implications

Under UAE law, parents bear legal responsibility for the actions of their underage children. Advocate Madav highlighted this provision regarding the two girls involved, noting that both are under the age of 11.

"Since both the girls are under the age of 11, their actions are the responsibility of the parents," Madav explained. She advised parents in the community to remain vigilant and prioritize the safety and supervision of their children.

The investigation continues as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
