Four Brothers and a Maid Killed in a Crash in Abu Dhabi

A devastating road accident early Sunday has claimed the lives of four young brothers and their family’s maid, and left other family members critically injured, authorities and local sources have confirmed.

The tragedy occurred on the Abu Dhabi–Dubai motorway near Shahama as the family was returning home to Dubai after attending the Liwa Date Festival in the desert, police and welfare groups assisting the family reported.

The four boys, Ashaz (14), Ammar (12), Azam (8) and Ayash (5), are among the deceased, along with the family’s 48-year-old domestic helper. All were Indian citizens originally from Kerala, India.

The parents, Abdul and Ruksana Lateef, and their 10-year-old daughter, Izza, survived the crash and were rushed to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi with serious injuries. Relatives and local welfare volunteers said that Azam later died in hospital on Monday, deepening the family’s loss.

Relatives and community supporters are now assisting with arrangements for the children’s burials in the UAE, in line with the family’s wishes. At the same time, the body of the maid is expected to be flown back to her family in Kerala.

The devastating incident has prompted an outpouring of grief among the local Indian community and at the boys’ school, Arab Unity School, where the principal paid tribute to the siblings’ personalities, remembering Ashaz for his quiet determination, Ammar for his friendly nature, and Ayash for his creativity and enthusiasm.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash, and local road safety officials have reiterated the importance of caution on busy highways, particularly during weekends and peak travel periods.

The loss of the four brothers and their maid has deeply affected both the expatriate community and broader UAE residents, reminding drivers of the fragile nature of life on the roads as families travel between emirates for cultural events and celebrations.
