In a powerful display of national solidarity, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a call for the UAE flag to be raised above every home, center, and building across the nation. The directive comes as the country reflects on its collective resilience following a period of intense regional conflict involving Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Speaking on social media on Thursday, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the recent crisis has galvanized a profound sense of unity between citizens and residents alike. "We are united under the country's banner, its flag, and the symbol of its unity," he wrote. He described the national flag not merely as a piece of cloth, but as a potent "symbol of strength and pride."
The call to action follows a challenging period that began on February 28, when Iran initiated a series of daily attacks on the region. According to official reports, the UAE's advanced air defense systems successfully intercepted a staggering 537 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,256 drones during this timeframe. Despite the aggression, the nation remained steadfast, a fact Sheikh Mohammed highlighted in his message.
"We are proud of our country, proud of our President, our military strength, our economy, our workforce, all of our citizens and residents on our land, proud of our flag," Sheikh Mohammed stated. He urged the people to "raise the flag high over every home and building, as a sign of our love and symbol of our loyalty to our President and our unity and solidarity."
The Ruler of Dubai noted that while the UAE entered the crisis already united, it has emerged from it "even more united, cohesive and loyal." This sentiment was echoed by Dr. Anwar Gargash, who remarked that the UAE had "triumphed in a war it sought to avoid," underscoring the nation's strategic success in defending its sovereignty without escalating into a broader regional conflagration.
The atmosphere of national pride coincides with a significant diplomatic breakthrough. On Tuesday night, following successful negotiations mediated by Pakistan, the United States and Iran announced a two-week pause in hostilities. This de-escalation has provided a moment for the UAE to reflect on its security achievements and the unifying power of its national identity.
Sheikh Mohammed concluded his message with a prayer for the nation's continued safety: "May God protect the UAE, its people." As families and businesses across the Emirates prepare to hoist their flags, the gesture serves as a visual affirmation of the country's enduring spirit and its commitment to peace and stability in a volatile region.
