Majdala kicked off the discussion by thanking Zoga Yoga Café, all the participating brands, attendees, the doctor, and the survivor.

During the panel discussion, Doudja Benfredj highlighted her personal journey, while Dr. Tatiana Khoury shared valuable insights on the importance of early testing and addressed common misconceptions about breast cancer.

Dr. Khoury addressed common misconceptions about breast cancer, clarifying that women often think they need to feel something or experience pain to suspect breast cancer, which is not the case. She advised that while any pain should prompt a checkup, it does not necessarily indicate cancer, as breast pain is very common. She also explained screening guidelines, saying: “Mammograms start at age 40 even if you don’t feel anything. You may be healthy and symptom-free, but the screening test is important.” Adding on that, she clarified that screening is usually not done for women under 40 unless indicated. “You are 40, fit, healthy, and may feel nothing, yet the screening test is important.”

Breast cancer survivor Doudja Benfredj inspired the audience with her journey. She reflected on the challenges she faced, saying she does not consider herself a “winner” but looks at her experience from a different perspective. She shared how difficult it was to go to work wearing hair extensions and makeup, appearing happy while secretly battling cancer: “I didn’t leave work. I would go to the studio, wear a wig and makeup, and no one knew I was sick. Before going on air for the news, I would even vomit. What helped me was my work, the people around me who supported me, and my husband, who gave me hope. It’s very important to think about the moment ahead. You have to accept it. Between life and death, you live the experience in all its moments. If you surrender and allow yourself to go through it, you will emerge, I and what comes after the storm.”

The event concluded with a yoga session led by a trainer from Zoga Yoga Café, where influencers and participating brands joined together to meditate, connect, and reflect. Each participating brand took a few minutes to express their gratitude for the event and share how their brand valued being part of such an inspiring initiative.
