Ramadan Recipes: Tortang Giniling

Tortang Giniling, or beef omelet, is a classic Filipino dish where ground beef and chopped onions are mixed with egg batter and pan-fried until golden brown. You can make it entirely your own by using your favorite vegetables.

Tortang Giniling

⅓ cup chopped onions
2 large garlic cloves, minced
½ kg ground beef or pork
1 tablespoon soy sauce
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
6 large eggs, beaten
3 tablespoons oil
2 green onions, thinly sliced

    In a large skillet, heat two tablespoons of oil, add onions and garlic, and stir for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  2. Add ground beef

    Add ground beef and cook for about 8-10 minutes until cooked through, then season with salt and pepper. Drain the beef mixture and let cool.
  3. Add eggs

    Add eggs and soy sauce to the cooled beef mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Cook the beef omelet

    In a skillet, heat one teaspoon of oil over medium-low heat, then scoop some of the mixture. Let the omelet set for 3 minutes, sprinkle with some green onions, and flip it to cook 2 minutes longer. Repeat with the remaining egg-beef mixture.
  5. Serve

    Sprinkle the beef omelet with the remaining green onions and serve. It tastes amazing on its own, but it's 10 times better with ketchup or sriracha chili sauce!
