Road Closures Announced in Dubai for New Year's Eve

Dubai authorities have unveiled detailed traffic restrictions and road closures set to take effect on December 31 as residents and visitors prepare for the city’s iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with Dubai Police and event organizers, has scheduled staggered closures of key routes around Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall to help ease congestion and ensure public safety during the festivities.

The measures are designed to prevent bottlenecks as large crowds flock to watch the world-famous Burj Khalifa fireworks and partake in New Year’s Eve events.

Key Road Closure Details

  • From 4 pm:
Several major roads surrounding the celebration zone will close to general traffic. This includes Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Lower Financial Centre Road, and Al Asayel Street—the latter designated as an emergency route and bus layby.

  • Starting at 9 pm:
Upper Financial Centre Street will be cordoned off as crowd numbers peak in the evening.  At 11 pm:
Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed to through traffic, affecting one of Dubai’s primary arteries as celebrations reach their climax.

In addition, Future Street, between the DIFC interchange and Dubai World Trade Centre, will be shut from 4 pm and remain closed until after the celebrations conclude.

Advice for Motorists and Visitors

Officials are urging motorists to plan journeys ahead of time, consider alternate routes, and arrive early if travelling to celebration areas. With closures concentrated around some of the city’s busiest corridors, drivers can expect significant congestion without prior routing adjustments.

This strategic approach to traffic management aims to balance the smooth flow of vehicles with the safety needs of tens of thousands of New Year’s Eve revelers.
