Sharjah to Install 100 EV Chargers

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has entered into a strategic partnership with ION to significantly expand the emirate's electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Under the new agreement, more than 100 fast-charging stations will be installed and maintained across Sharjah city, as well as in the central and eastern regions, marking a major leap forward in the region's green mobility landscape.

ION, a joint venture formed by Beeah and Crescent Enterprises, has been approved as the first authorized operator of EV charging points in Sharjah. This designation underscores the emirate's commitment to transitioning toward sustainable transport solutions. The project aims to accommodate the rapidly increasing number of EV drivers while aligning with global sustainability targets and reducing overall carbon emissions.

Yousif Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, emphasized that the initiative is a direct response to the growing demand for electric vehicles. He noted that the project reflects the authority's dedication to advancing electric mobility in harmony with international environmental goals. To ensure the highest quality of service and timely completion, the rollout will be executed in close coordination with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA).

Beyond the physical infrastructure, the partnership introduces a user-centric digital solution. ION will launch an integrated mobile application designed to streamline the charging experience. The app will allow drivers to locate the nearest charging stations, monitor their charging status in real-time, and process payments effortlessly.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Chairman of ION and Group CEO of Beeah, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative. He stated that the project is designed to create a comprehensive and accessible EV charging ecosystem that supports the United Arab Emirates' overarching sustainability strategy and its net-zero aspirations. With this expansion, Sharjah solidifies its position as a leader in adopting clean energy technologies within the transportation sector.
