UAE Launches Digital Platform to Monitor Prices for Essential Products

The United Arab Emirates has introduced a new digital initiative designed to empower consumers and enhance market transparency: the Main Commodities Prices Platform. Launched on Sunday, the tool allows shoppers to compare real-time prices of essential goods across the country's leading retail outlets to secure the best possible deals.

According to a report by the state news agency Wam, the platform currently tracks live pricing for 33 specific items distributed across 12 major outlets. The monitored goods cover a wide range of daily necessities, categorized into 17 basic consumer goods and 16 other major items. The list includes staples such as cooking oils, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, poultry, meat, fish, legumes, bread, wheat, and water, as well as fresh produce like bananas, oranges, apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, and onions.

The primary objective of the initiative is to increase transparency regarding the pricing of essential commodities. By enabling consumers to compare identical products across different retailers instantly, the platform helps individuals identify the most cost-effective options for their household needs.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection, emphasized the strategic importance of the launch. He stated that the platform is designed to strengthen consumer rights in alignment with global best practices, thereby contributing to a stable and transparent consumer environment.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to bolster consumer confidence in local markets. By balancing rigorous price monitoring with the protection of purchasing power, the government seeks to ensure that residents can manage their household budgets more effectively amidst fluctuating market conditions.

The Main Commodities Prices Platform is now accessible to the public via the Ministry of Economy and Tourism's official website at https://www.moet.gov.ae/en/essential-goods-prices-platform.
