UAE President to Participate in G7 Summit in France

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to join fellow world leaders at the G7 summit in France this week, where the US-Iran peace process and the critical reopening of the Strait of Hormuz are expected to dominate the agenda.

Invited by French President Emmanuel Macron, Sheikh Mohamed will attend the three-day gathering beginning Monday at the spa resort of Evian-les-Bains. He arrives from Egypt, where he held talks with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday regarding the ongoing war in Iran and its implications for regional security. During their meeting in Cairo, both leaders emphasized that promoting peace and stability is essential for development.

The summit comes at a pivotal moment for international relations. The United States and Iran have unveiled a framework agreement aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire and establishing a roadmap to end the conflict, which began in February. US President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance and stated that he has authorized the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as part of this breakthrough. The agreement is anticipated to be signed this week.

In addition to the UAE and US delegations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been invited to discuss Russia's ongoing war on his country. The G7, comprising the US, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, convenes annually to address pressing global challenges, often inviting non-member nations to contribute to key discussions.

According to the state news agency Wam, the UAE's invitation "reflects the global recognition accorded to the country and its role in promoting international co-operation and addressing shared challenges." As global powers gather to negotiate a path toward ending the Middle East turmoil, Sheikh Mohamed's participation underscores the UAE's growing diplomatic influence on the world stage.
