His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai approved the designs for air taxi stations in Dubai on February 12th at the World Government Summit (WGS), which will start operating in three years.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has collaborated with leading companies such as Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation to launch a project of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) by 2026.

Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA Mattar Al Tayer stated: "The initial network of vertiports will connect four main areas of Dubai: Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa area), Dubai Marina, Dubai International Airport, and Palm Jumeirah."

The aerial taxis will drive at top speeds of 300 kmph, with a maximum range of 241 km. The taxi will seat a pilot and a maximum of 4 passengers. These taxis will operate with zero carbon emissions.

This project will make Dubai the first city in the world to have a fully developed network of vertiports. The prototype design of the first aerial taxi vertiport will be located at Dubai International (DXB).

The RTA stand at the WGS has an aerial taxi simulator that allows visitors to experience driving an aerial taxi through Dubai.
