Ajman introduces reduced hours, new types of leave, and career benefits to enhance employee wellness and community stability.
Ajman has introduced a new law across its government departments, bringing new types of leave, added benefits, and reduced working hours for employees.
The law, issued by the Ruler of Ajman, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, will come into effect on September 1, 2026.
Law No. (4) of 2026, focused on human resources in Ajman’s government, offers additional types of leave for family care, self-employment, entrepreneurship, persons with disabilities, and marriage.
Reduced Working Hours
The new law supports employees facing personal or family-related challenges with reduced working hours. Eligible employees include those with disabilities, pregnant staff, and individuals supporting large families. The details are as follows:
- Employees with disabilities: 2 hours less per day
- Pregnant staff: 2 hours less daily with a medical report confirming fatigue or exhaustion
- Employees supporting five or more children under 18: 1 hour less per day
All civilian employees in government departments are covered by the law, including senior management where applicable.
Career Benefits
To improve government efficiency and foster a positive work environment, the law introduces several career benefits. Employees with exceptional talent and high performance may be promoted up to three job grades. Emirati employees are also eligible for the new Good Service Award.
A Focus on Family and Community Stability
Aligned with the ‘Year of the Family,’ the law seeks to promote family stability and emphasize the key role of families in building communities.
Human Resources Responsibilities
Under the law, the Ajman Government Human Resources Department is tasked with reviewing and updating human resources legislation. Its duties also include monitoring the implementation of policies across government departments and providing consultations to ensure smooth and effective operations.
