Flexibility and lightweight structure Organic solar cells have long been of interest as they can be made to be flexible, lightweight and possibly cost-effective to make. Nonetheless, one issue has remained, that of durability. Long term exposure to light, oxygen, and heat causes decreased performance, and prevents large scale adoption. This is in the process of being reversed by a new additive which allows organic solar cells to retain up to 93 per cent of the original power output, a major leap towards the commercial viability threshold.
