Dubai Police have seized a minibus illegally loaded with 10 gas cylinders, warning of the severe fire risk posed by transporting such hazardous items in unlicensed passenger vehicles.
Brig Jumaa bin Suwaidan, acting director of Dubai Traffic Police, said officers discovered the modified vehicle during an inspection campaign in Al Quoz industrial area. The seats had been removed to accommodate the cylinders.
“There were 10 cylinders inside the vehicle, which endangers the life of the driver and other road users,” Brig bin Suwaidan said. “Any accident or gas leak might cause an explosion or major fire. It is a very dangerous violation.”
The vehicle was impounded, and the driver referred to public prosecution for legal action.
Safety Warning on Gas Transport
Authorities emphasized that gas cylinders are highly flammable and must only be transported in specialized vehicles equipped with open roofs, safety signage, and fire extinguishers.
“Dubai Police always stand against any dangerous acts. We will continue our traffic campaigns and monitor the roads to catch violators,” Brig bin Suwaidan added.
Residents were urged to report unsafe practices by calling 901, with police stressing that community awareness is key to preventing tragedies.
The warning comes amid rising concerns over accidents linked to gas leaks. Last year, a cylinder explosion triggered a major fire on Abu Dhabi’s Hamdan Street, while in 2022, a Khalidiya gas blast killed two people and injured 120 others.
