Advice for affected passengers

The airline advised customers impacted by the cancellations to contact their travel agents for rebooking. Passengers who booked directly with Emirates were urged to contact the airline’s customer service team for assistance.

Emirates also encouraged travellers to ensure their contact details are up to date via the Manage Your Booking section on its website to receive real-time updates. The carrier apologised for the inconvenience and said it is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation.

US flight disruptions intensify

The Emirates cancellations come amid widespread disruption across the US aviation network. According to FlightAware, more than 1,000 flights were delayed or cancelled on Friday, with over half of the disruptions reported in Dallas alone. Around 2,300 flights were cancelled for Saturday.

Sunday is now expected to become the worst day for US flight cancellations in the past year. As of 9pm ET on Friday, more than 4,200 Sunday flights had already been cancelled, surpassing the previous record set on November 9, when more than 1,900 flights were grounded during the US government shutdown.

With freezing rain, snow, and extreme cold expected to persist, airlines have warned that further delays and cancellations are likely in the coming days as Storm Fern continues to impact major travel hubs.
