Indian Singer KK passes away; given gun salute at Kolkata, India

Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, was an Indian playback singer and was regarded as one of the best and most versatile singers in the Indian music industry.

KK passed away on 31st May 2022 at the age of 53. The singer fell ill after performing at a concert a few hours before he passed away on the way to the hospital.

KK had expressed his excitement about performing in Kolkata before his performance on Tuesday. “It’s been two years since I performed in Kolkata. I have really missed this city, a lot of shows happen here. People here love me a lot, I love them too. It’s actually been a while since I performed at the Nazrul Mancha. I am very excited,”.

The family of the singer KK pays their last respects to him at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata. KK's wife Jyoti and their kids paid a floral tribute to the singer as his body was brought to Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata. West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a gun salute for KK. His family will leave for Mumbai with his body to perform the last rites. 

Celebrities including Akshay Kumar, Armaan Malik, Emraan Hashmi, Munmun Dutta, Harshdeep Kaur, Shekhar Ravjiani expressed their grief on Twitter, calling it a black year in Indian music. Emraan Hashmi wrote, “A voice and talent like no other. They don't make them like him anymore. Working on the songs he sang was always that much more special. You will always be in our hearts KK and live eternally through your songs. RIP Legend KK”
