If you drive a luxury car in Dubai, you might have been approached with a dramatic story and a plea for cash.
Dubai Police have arrested a man accused of targeting owners of high-end vehicles while begging in parking areas and at traffic lights. When officers caught him, they found AED 20,000 in cash in his possession.
How He Operated
According to Dubai Police, the suspect allegedly approached drivers of luxury cars claiming he had no money for food and was in urgent need.
The arrest was carried out by the General Department of Criminal Investigation as part of the force’s ongoing anti-begging campaign.
Police Warning to Residents
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi from the department handling suspicious persons and criminal phenomena said some beggars fabricate stories to gain sympathy and collect money.
Authorities are urging residents not to hand over cash to individuals soliciting funds in public places, including parking lots, streets, markets, mosques, and near hospitals.
What You Should Do Instead
Police reminded the public that begging is illegal under federal law and punishable by penalties.
If someone genuinely needs help, officials say they should be directed to licensed charitable organizations instead.
Residents can report beggars by calling 901 or through the “Police Eye” feature on the Dubai Police smart app.
