Dubai Police confirmed a fatal accident on Sheikh Zayed Road Wednesday after a motorcyclist collided with a stationary truck near Arabian Ranches Bridge.
A motorcyclist tragically lost his life this morning on Sheikh Zayed Road after crashing into a truck that had made an unsafe stop on the hard shoulder, Dubai Police reported. The collision occurred just before the Arabian Ranches Bridge in the direction of Abu Dhabi.
Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, explained that the accident was caused by a combination of the truck’s unsafe stop and the rider’s lack of attention. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that stopping on the hard shoulder without a valid emergency is one of Dubai’s most dangerous traffic offences. “Near-daily accidents occur because of unsafe stops on road shoulders,” he said, reminding motorists that shoulders are only for genuine emergencies such as sudden breakdowns or urgent medical issues.
Dubai Police highlighted the penalties for this offence, which include hefty fines, black points, and potential vehicle impoundment.
Officials advised motorists to take safety precautions, such as moving vehicles to the far-left lane in case of breakdowns, switching on hazard lights, and using warning triangles to alert other drivers.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan further urged drivers to check their vehicles before journeys to avoid unexpected malfunctions and warned against speeding, failing to maintain safe distances, and driving while distracted.
“Dubai Police will continue to enforce strict penalties against violators, especially those committing dangerous offences that endanger the lives of others,” Brigadier bin Suwaidan said, calling on all road users to remain vigilant and comply with traffic laws to save lives.
