Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists of strict penalties for excessive vehicle noise and reckless driving, as authorities intensify a crackdown on modified cars and disruptive behaviour in residential areas and desert locations.

The warning, issued primarily to young drivers, targets motorists operating vehicles with unauthorised engine or chassis modifications that cause loud noise, as well as those engaging in stunt driving in neighbourhoods and sandy outskirts of the emirate. Police said such behaviour disturbs public tranquillity and poses risks to community safety.

“Noise from vehicles causes a state of disruption and creates panic, tension, and nervousness among road users and residents,” Abu Dhabi Police said in a post on X.

Officials noted that excessive engine noise has a particularly negative impact on elderly residents, children and people with medical conditions living near affected areas. The warning also extends to motorcycle riders frequenting family campsites and desert zones, who have been urged to comply with safety regulations and avoid unauthorised modifications that amplify sound.

Under Article 20 of the Traffic and Circulation Law, drivers found operating vehicles that cause excessive noise face a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points. Additional penalties apply to motorists who make unauthorised changes to a vehicle’s engine or chassis.

According to Law No. 5 of 2020, such violations carry a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. To release an impounded vehicle, owners must pay a Dh10,000 fee. Authorities warned that vehicles not claimed within three months may be referred for sale at public auction.

Abu Dhabi Police have urged residents to report noisy or disruptive vehicles by contacting the Command and Control Centre on 999, as part of efforts to maintain public safety and quality of life across the emirate.
