Abu Dhabi Launches Automatic Parking Payment System

Abu Dhabi is introducing a new paid parking system in key areas of Mohamed Bin Zayed City starting April 6, 2026, aiming to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Where the new parking applies

The first phase will cover high-traffic commercial areas, including:

  • ME10 and ME11 sectors

  • Main commercial streets within villa zones Z17-01, Z19, Z20, and Z27

In total, the rollout will include over 11,000 parking spaces, with the majority located in ME10 and ME11.

How much will it cost?

Motorists will pay:

  • Dh2 per hour for standard (secondary) parking spaces

Payments can be made through:

  • Darb and TAMM apps

  • SMS

  • On-site payment machines

What about residential areas?

Parking in nearby villa zones will be restricted to permit holders only, helping protect residents’ privacy and reduce random parking.

Why this is happening

Authorities say the move targets:

  • Heavy daily traffic in commercial areas

  • Shortage of parking spaces

  • Unauthorised and random parking

The goal is to improve access to shops and services while making roads more organised and efficient.

More parking already added

To support the changes, Abu Dhabi recently introduced four multi-storey parking buildings across nearby sectors, adding 1,446 parking spaces.

These include:

  • 682 spaces in ME9

  • 346 spaces in ME10

  • 418 spaces in ME12

Dedicated spots for People of Determination are also included.

Bigger plan for smarter mobility

The system is being rolled out by Q Mobility under the supervision of the Integrated Transport Centre, as part of a wider push to build a smarter, more sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi.
