Great news for the Pakistani community in the UAE! The Government of Pakistan will start issuing electronic passports (e-passports) to its citizens living in the Emirates starting July 20, 2026. This new update aligns with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Where and How to Apply

Starting July 20, all new passport applications submitted at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai will be automatically processed as e-passports.

What Happens to Your Current Passport?

If you already have a Machine-Readable Passport (MRP), there is no need to worry. Your current passport remains fully valid until its official expiry date.

To keep things smooth and easy, Pakistani citizens with more than six months of passport validity are advised to wait and renew their documents only when they have less than six months left.

Online Services Still Available

For extra convenience, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) continues to offer online passport application services for overseas Pakistanis, allowing you to update your documents from the comfort of your home.
