Banks and financial institutions across the UAE experienced temporary service disruptions on Monday, affecting mobile banking apps, contact centres, and certain card services.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) confirmed a “region-wide IT disruption,” noting that mobile banking and contact centre services are temporarily unavailable. Customers can still use ADCB Internet Banking, WhatsApp Banking, UBank ATMs, and branch services. Domestic and international transfers remain operational via internet banking and the Aani app by Al Etihad Payments.
Cause Linked to AWS Facility Incident
The outage comes after an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre in the UAE reported a disruption Sunday night due to objects striking the facility, triggering sparks and a minor fire. Some customers experienced networking-related API errors as a result.
Other Financial Services Affected
Al Fardan Exchange also reported temporary service interruptions, affecting card issuance, reload, unload (encashment), and balance enquiry services at all branches, as well as contact centre support. The company said teams are working to restore services and will notify customers once fully operational.
Companies Assure Quick Restoration
Both ADCB and Al Fardan Exchange emphasized that teams are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible and urged customers to use alternative channels for urgent transactions.
