Asia Cup Ends in Drama as India Refuses Trophy After Beating Pakistan

The Asia Cup final in Dubai ended with India chasing down 147 runs to beat Pakistan, but the big twist? The Men in Blue didn’t pick up the winner’s trophy.

Instead of the usual glittery handover, the post-match ceremony ended abruptly when India refused to accept the cup from Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council and the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Why India Said “No Thanks”

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the team’s stance, saying they wouldn’t take the trophy from Naqvi. Captain Suryakumar Yadav added that the team was “denied” the silverware after declining the handover. Saikia called the situation “unfortunate” but hopes medals reach the players soon.

The stadium still lit up with fireworks, but the star of the night—the trophy—was missing from the celebration.

Rivalry Runs Hot

This wasn’t just about cricket. Tensions between India and Pakistan had already flared throughout the tournament.

  • India skipped handshakes after the opening match, citing solidarity with victims of the Pahalgam attack.

  • Players from both sides faced fines for political comments and provocative gestures.

  • PCB and BCCI even traded complaints with the ICC over celebrations and remarks.

By the time of the final, the rivalry had turned the Asia Cup into more of a political stage than a cricket festival—ending with a win on the field but a snub on the podium.
