From New Beginnings to Global Impact: How One Entrepreneur Built a Life and Business in Dubai

Sometimes, a city chooses you before you even realize it. For Christiana Maxion, what began as a move for love in 2016 quickly became a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and global impact. Arriving in Abu Dhabi from New York, she was struck immediately by the UAE’s energy. “The city had this unmistakable culture of ambition and possibility that was contagious from day one,” Christiana recalls. Clean, efficient, and brimming with forward momentum, Dubai offered a stark contrast to the fast-paced chaos of New York, yet with the same hunger for achievement.

But arriving without a network also meant confronting the profound loneliness of starting over in a new country. “I experienced firsthand how real expat loneliness can be — even in a city as vibrant as Dubai,” she says. Channeling that experience into purpose, Christiana rose in the education sector, becoming a national teacher trainer, a published author featured at the Emirates Literature Festival and Abu Dhabi Book Fair, and a school leader managing a team of 55 staff.

It was through these personal and professional experiences that she recognized a gap in the social ecosystem: the need for meaningful human connection. “People needed better ways to form meaningful connections. That insight led me to launch my matchmaking agency, which grew internationally and served extraordinary clients across the globe,” Christiana explains. From there, she expanded into technology, founding MAXION, the UAE’s first AI-powered platform designed to support the full relationship journey, from meeting to lasting partnership.

Christiana’s journey in Dubai has been shaped by both challenge and opportunity. “Starting over. I had to rebuild my career after leaving a role that no longer aligned with my vision. In a city as fast-moving as Dubai, that transition can feel isolating. But that experience became a turning point,” she reflects. Today, the UAE’s environment — where government vision aligns with individual ambition — continues to fuel her drive. “Living here pushes me to match that ambition with my own work: building technology that strengthens communities and creates real impact.”
