His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, honoured six distinguished winners of the Great Arab Minds Award 2025 at a ceremony held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, recognising their contributions to advancing civilisation and building knowledge societies.
The Great Arab Minds initiative, now in its third year, is among the most prestigious Arab awards of its kind, spotlighting thinkers and innovators whose work spans medicine, natural sciences, technology, economics, architecture and the arts. It was established in 2022 with a Dh100 million fund to celebrate Arab excellence and inspire future generations.
Each category winner received Dh1 million (approximately AED 1M) in prize money, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to fostering scientific research, creativity and cultural contributions across the Arab world.
The 2025 laureates are:
- Prof. Majed Chergui – Natural Sciences
- Prof. Abbas El Gamal – Engineering and Technology
- Dr. Nabil Seidah – Medicine
- Prof. Badi Hani – Economics
- Dr. Suad Amiry – Architecture and Design
- Prof. Charbel Dagher – Literature and Arts
During the event, Sheikh Mohammed praised their achievements, saying the awards recognise contributions that “advance civilisation and build societies,” and reaffirm the UAE’s support for Arab talent committed to excellence.
Dr. Nabil Seidah, honored in the medicine category for his impactful research in cardiovascular health and cholesterol management, announced his intention to share his Dh1 million prize with his students, according to The National. He described the recognition as one of the most meaningful of his career, especially being acknowledged by an Arab initiative.
Prof. Chergui, reflecting on his own journey, noted that the award has become comparable to top global accolades, encouraging young scholars to pursue high-impact research. The ceremony drew families of the winners, academics, diplomats, officials and experts from various fields, celebrating both individual achievement and collective progress.
The Great Arab Minds Award continues to grow in stature; one of its 2024 winners went on to win a Nobel Prize in Chemistry, reinforcing its role in elevating Arab contributions on the world stage.
