Sate Ayam, or Chicken Satay, is a popular Indonesian dish consisting of skewered and grilled chicken, typically served with a flavorful peanut sauce. The chicken is often enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or part of a larger meal. It is a perfect addition to your iftar meal during Ramadan.

Sate Ayam

500g chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Bamboo skewers, soaked in water

  1. Marinate the Chicken

    In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, ground coriander, ground cumin, minced garlic, and vegetable oil. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Skewer the Chicken

    Preheat your grill or grill pan. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
  3. Grill the Chicken

    Grill the chicken skewers until they are cooked through and have a nice char, turning occasionally. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Baste with Marinade

    While grilling, baste the chicken skewers with the remaining marinade to add more flavor.
  5. Serve

    Once the chicken is cooked, remove from the grill. Serve the Chicken Satay hot with a side of peanut sauce or soy sauce for dipping.
