Organisers of The 90s by RBO festival have announced a delay in the start date of the much-anticipated retro event, confirming that the 90s nostalgia celebration will now officially begin on Saturday, 14 February at 7:00 PM. The announcement, shared with fans and attendees on social media, came with the tagline “New date. Same energy.”, urging visitors to “mark your calendars” and prepare for a journey back in time.
Originally scheduled to open earlier in February, the event’s updated start adds an extra element of excitement by coinciding with Valentine’s weekend, potentially drawing couples and nostalgia lovers alike to Sharjah’s vibrant cultural scene. Organisers have stressed that despite the shift, the festival’s immersive experience, which blends sights, sounds and flavours from the 1990s, remains unchanged and fully intact.
The 90s by RBO is billed as one of the UAE’s largest 1990s-themed immersive events, designed around the pop-culture phenomena that shaped a generation. Featuring retro games, arcade consoles, outdoor cinema screenings of classic films and TV, themed food and memorabilia, the festival aims to transform Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park into a time capsule of the decade. From VHS tapes and flip phones to classic gaming consoles and collectible art, every corner invites visitors to relive the nostalgia of the era.
Alongside the visual and interactive attractions, the event’s music lineup will celebrate chart-topping hits that once dominated playlists, while themed dining zones serve up diner-style favourites, such as burgers and milkshakes, designed to echo the tastes of the 1990s. Family-friendly and generational in appeal, the festival has been attracting attention from millennials eager to reconnect with their childhood memories as well as younger visitors curious about pop-culture history.
Organisers assure that the entire festival run, now through 1 March, will deliver the nostalgia fest’s full creative programme, with doors open daily from late afternoon into the evening. While reasons for the date change were not fully disclosed, the revised schedule appears to ensure maximum engagement and attendance during one of the busiest weekends of the season.
Whether you grew up gaming on a SEGA or debating the best sitcom of the decade, Sharjah’s revamped start to the 90s celebration promises a vibrant and playful homage to a defining era in pop culture, just with a slightly later kickoff.
