THE RITZ-CARLTON MALDIVES, FARI ISLANDS PARTNERS WITH

Creating experiential programming focused on marine preservation

Malé, Maldives, 2021 – The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is proud to announce its partnership with legendary oceanographic explorer, environmentalist, educator, and film producer Jean-Michel Cousteau. The only resort in the region to offer the Ambassadors of the Environment program, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands will join five other Ritz-Carlton properties globally to bring this preservation program to guests. In collaboration with Ocean Futures Society, an organisation founded by Jean-Michel Cousteau to explore the global oceans and share with the world the critical connection between the quality of the ocean and the quality of our lives, Cousteau and our Naturalists will endeavor to curate enriching experiences for guests of all ages as they explore the natural wonders of the Maldives both above and underwater.

Having dedicated his entire life to marine conservation, Jean-Michel Cousteau and his team work tirelessly and passionately with leaders of nations and industries, and especially the next generation, by educating the public on marine conservation and finding sustainable solutions to protect our ocean planet. From creating educational programs around the world that immerse children in nature, to communicating the importance of sustainable living, to producing documentaries that shed light on the state of the planet, Cousteau and his team at Ocean Futures Society reach both large and small audiences, winning hearts, and fostering love for our planet.

“Introducing the Ambassadors of the Environment program to the Maldives was an obvious next step for the brand and partnering with The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands allowed our Naturalists the opportunity to create new and cutting-edge programming for the resort’s guests,” said Dr Richard Murphy, the Director of Science and Education at Ocean Futures Society who leads the Ambassadors of the Environment teams and is intimately involved in the development of the programs for the Ritz-Carlton brand.

“We call the program Ambassadors of the Environment because we want people to return home with the inspiration and motivation to live more sustainably and to appreciate the importance of protecting the nature that keeps our planet habitable for us and all other species,” said Cousteau. “It was initially created specifically for kids but their parents came to us, asking if they could participate because their children were having more fun than they were! We agreed, and now the program is for guests of all ages but the message is always the same – protect our natural resources. The health and richness of the coral reefs and the sustainable infrastructure of the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands will make this program one of the most exciting and impactful programs we have ever created!”

Renato De Oliveira, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands added, “We are honoured to partner with a living legend, Jean-Michel Cousteau and bring his Ocean Futures Society’s Ambassadors of the Environment program to the region. At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, we are committed to a sustainable future and we are excited to add this incredibly vital environmental preservation program to our guest experience.”

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, will carry on the values of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society through immersive and educational programming that explores and protects the delicate ecosystem of the Maldives. Programming includes (insert) kayaking, underwater photography and videography, rock wall climbing, night snorkeling, astronomy and more.

In 2005, Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company L.L.C. agreed to partner exclusively to bring Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program to Ritz-Carlton hotels around the world. Currently, the program provides educational, outdoor adventures to guests and the local communities at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman; The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua; Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve; The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara and Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
