UAE: 6 New Nationalities Now Eligible for Visa-on-Arrival

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has significantly broadened the eligibility criteria for UAE entry visas, marking a major step toward more flexible travel policies for international visitors.

Under the updated guidelines, nationals from six additional countries—Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa—are now eligible for both 14-day and 60-day visa categories. Previously, only Indian nationals qualified for this particular visa arrangement.

Expanded Country of Residence Options

Beyond nationality requirements, the amendments also expand the list of qualifying countries of residence. Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have been added to the previously approved roster, which included the US, EU Member States, and the UK.

To qualify, applicants must meet two key conditions:

  1. Be nationals of one of the seven eligible countries (India plus the six new additions)
  2. Hold a valid residence permit issued by any of the approved residence countries

Fee Structure and Extension Rules

The ICP has established clear pricing and extension protocols for the new visa categories:

Visa Type Duration Cost Extendable?
Short-term 14 days Dh100 Yes, once
Extended stay 60 days Dh250 No

Visa holders are reminded that overstaying their authorized period will incur a fine of Dh50 per day. The 14-day visa may be extended once during the holder's stay, while the 60-day visa is issued as single-entry and non-extendable.

Strengthening Global Ties

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the expansion as part of the UAE's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with friendly nations and fostering lasting humanitarian, economic, and cultural partnerships.

"A spokesperson for the Identity and Foreigners Affairs at ICP added that the amendments align with evolving global trends in travel and mobility, meeting the needs of a broader segment of travelers seeking to visit the UAE."

The initiative aims to create broader opportunities for nationals from these countries to experience the UAE's rich cultural heritage, dynamic economy, and globally recognized infrastructure. The ministry emphasized continued coordination with national authorities to facilitate individual movement and reinforce the UAE's position as a leading global destination for talent and skilled professionals.
