Abu Dhabi Introduces Sand to Sea Track for Wheelchair-Accessible Beach

Abu Dhabi is taking a significant step toward inclusivity by introducing green technology to grant wheelchair users access to multiple beaches across the Emirates. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has collaborated with Mubadala, the sovereign investment arm, to implement remote-controlled ramps, enabling people with disabilities to independently access the waters.

Innovative Beach Access Solution

In a joint effort, the DMT and Mubadala have introduced solar-powered tracks, designed by the Greek company Seatrac, equipped with chairs to transport users from the sands to the sea. These cutting-edge tracks facilitate users in lowering themselves into the sea and effortlessly returning to the chair using the ramp's rails.

Extensive Beach Accessibility Rollout

The groundbreaking Seatrac system, already successful at over 200 beaches in Greece, will be inaugurated at prominent Abu Dhabi beaches, including Corniche Public Beach, Corniche Family Beach, Corniche Sahil Beach, Al Bateen Public Beach, and Al Bateen Ladies' Beach.

This pioneering initiative aligns with the UAE government's broader vision to foster a more inclusive society for individuals with various forms of disabilities. Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operational Affairs at the DMT, emphasized the partnership's commitment to enhancing Abu Dhabi's quality of life and creating a more inclusive community.
