A large fire broke out early Monday morning in a police headquarters in northeastern Egypt, injuring at least 38 people, according to the health ministry.

The blaze ripped through the multi-story police headquarters in the Suez Canal province of Ismailia, Egypt, according to Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, a spokesperson for the Health Ministry. This according to Abdel-Ghaffar, has led to causing significant damage and injuring at least 38 people. The injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it may have been started by an electrical short circuit.

Of the 38 people injured in the fire at the police headquarters in Ismailia, Egypt, 12 were treated at the site for minor injuries, while 26 were taken to hospitals for further treatment. All but two of the injured were suffering from breathing difficulties. Seven of the injured were treated and discharged from hospitals.
