Torrential rains in south and western India are making it a nightmare for UAE residents heading back after their summer break. Roads are under water, local trains have been cancelled, and red alerts are in place—forcing families to leave for airports nearly a day early just to avoid missing their flights.
Travellers Leaving 8–10 Hours Early
For some, a simple 3-hour road trip turned into 7 hours of stressful driving through blocked roads and knee-deep water. Passengers say they had no choice but to start their journeys way ahead of schedule—sometimes arriving at airports nearly 8 hours before takeoff—to avoid paying thousands of dirhams for new tickets.
Mumbai Hit Hard
In Mumbai, over 150 departures and 100 arrivals were delayed in just one day. Families reported spending 10 hours at the airport after fighting through waterlogged streets and broken-down cars. Even short commutes inside the city turned into six-hour marathons, leaving passengers drained before even boarding.
More Rain on the Way
With heavy showers expected to continue and red alerts still active, travellers are taking no chances. Many are packing up and leaving home 8–10 hours early, knowing that in this weather, anything can go wrong before making it to their UAE-bound flights.
