E-scooters were involved in 241 traffic accidents across the UAE over the past four years, according to a report from the Ministry of Interior.
The number of crashes rose sharply in 2025. The incidents led to deaths, serious and minor injuries, and property damage. Authorities are again urging riders to follow traffic rules and use only approved routes.
The report said the accidents involved both regular kick scooters and electric scooters. Many cases were linked to speeding, riding on roads meant for cars, hitting kerbs, or colliding with pedestrians on walkways and crossings.
Official figures showed 17 accidents in 2022, with one death and 20 injuries. In 2023, the number increased to 46 accidents, causing five deaths and 47 injuries. In 2024, authorities recorded 58 crashes, which resulted in three deaths and 100 injuries. The trend continued in 2025, when 120 e-scooter accidents were reported across the UAE, the highest yearly total in the four-year period.
The Ministry said rules for scooter use have been in place since these vehicles were introduced in the UAE. These rules set the technical standards for both manual and electric scooters, as well as the conditions for using them.
Traffic authorities across the country continue to run awareness campaigns. Riders are being asked to follow road safety rules, keep to safe speeds in busy areas, use approved lanes and shared pedestrian and cycling paths where allowed, and follow all safety requirements to protect themselves and others.
