Now that the island's grocery market is set to restructure after the collapse of Shoprite - which sold all its nine family-owned stores to Tesco, according to BBC News (9 October 2023) - could a major budget/discount supermarket find a home in the Isle of Man? The vacuum left by a local, cherished brand might appear as an opening for a cheaper store, but several economic, geographical and logistical obstacles make a budget supermarket on the island a tough proposition.
