Discount titans Aldi and Lidl have carved out over 18% of the Great Britain grocery market between them, with Aldi pushing over the 10% market share barrier to become the fourth largest grocer in the UK, and Lidl leading the field for market growth, according to the latest Kantar Worldpanel market share data. The duo of discount supermarkets has eschewed the promotions-and price-cutting mentality that dogs their conventional rivals in pursuit of market share growth and has instead capitalised on underlying structural strengths.
