Ramadan Recipes: Luqaimat

The traditional Emirati dessert Luqaimat is a well-known dish enjoyed by Emiratis during special occasions and is especially popular during the holy month of Ramadan and is a staple dessert in many countries, including Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and the Gulf countries.

In some Middle Eastern countries, such as Lebanon, the sweet dumpling is known as Awameh or Awamat, which translates to 'floaters' or 'swimmers', and Zalabya. It is called 'little bites' and 'judge's bites' in Jordan and different regions of the Middle East. In Turkey, it is called Lokma and is often spiced with cinnamon and served in honey syrup. Sometimes, it is eaten with cheese.

Luqaimat is made with yeasted dough, fried to a golden-brown color, and dipped in syrup, honey, or sugar.
