UAE and Saudi Arabia Announce Eid Al Adha 2025 Date

Muslims in both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will celebrate Eid Al Adha 2025 on Friday, June 6, following the official sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon on the evening of Tuesday, May 27.

The sighting confirms that Wednesday, May 28 marks the first day of Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. This calendar milestone also determines the dates for the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid Al Adha, one of the most important Islamic festival.

When the crescent moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s Supreme Court officially declared the start of Dhul Hijjah.

The UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee convened on Tuesday evening to verify the crescent moon sighting and officially aligned its religious calendar with that of Saudi Arabia.

What Eid Al Adha Signifies

Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the festival is marked by special prayers, family gatherings, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock, which is then distributed among family, friends, and those in need.

For those performing Hajj, the Day of Arafah on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah—this year falling on Thursday, June 5—is one of the most spiritually significant days.

Unified Celebration Across the Gulf

With both Saudi Arabia and the UAE confirming the same date for Eid, Muslims across the Gulf region are expected to observe the holiday in unison. Other countries in the region, including Oman, have also followed with similar announcements, ensuring coordinated religious observances.

As the first day of Eid Al Adha approaches, preparations are already underway across Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The festival emphasizes values of faith, sacrifice, generosity, and community, and brings together Muslims in a celebration of spiritual devotion and unity.
