UAE Offers 180-Day Permit for Blue Residency Visa Applicants

Green thumbs and climate champs, listen up! The UAE is now offering a 180-day multiple-entry permit for foreigners applying for its prestigious Blue Residency visa—a 10-year residency designed for environmental trailblazers.

The new permit, launched by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), is aimed at giving applicants enough time to complete all required steps for securing the Blue Residency, even if they’re based outside the UAE.

According to Emarat Al Youm, this move is all part of the UAE’s bigger push to reward those making “exceptional contributions and efforts” to protecting the planet, from renewable energy champions to sustainability influencers.

So, who qualifies?

The ICP laid out the categories of rockstars eligible for the Blue Residency visa:

  • Influencers making waves in climate action
  • Scientists and researchers backed by the UAE Council of Scientists
  • Eco-focused investors and entrepreneurs
  • Innovators, inventors, and specialists in green tech or sustainability sectors

And here's the kicker: this isn’t the first time the UAE’s rolled out a multi-entry permit to support long-term visa hopefuls. A similar 6-month entry permit is already in place for those applying for the Golden Visa.

How to Apply for the 180-Day Permit:

Applicants can breeze through the process in under 10 minutes via the ICP website or the UAEICP mobile app. The five-step journey includes:

  1. Filling out personal info
  2. Uploading key docs (passport valid for at least six months, recent photo, and proof of eligibility)
  3. Paying the fee
  4. Submitting the application
  5. Getting approved within one business day once documents are verified

The Blue Residency made its debut during the World Government Summit earlier this year, where 20 sustainability leaders were awarded the visa. With this new step, the UAE is going full speed ahead on climate leadership—proving once again it’s serious about building a greener future, one long-term visa at a time.
