UAE Pledges Further $1.2B for Gaza in First Board of Peace Meeting

The United Arab Emirates announced an additional $1.2 billion in support for the people of Gaza at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting held in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, February 19, underscoring its continued role in humanitarian aid and long-term stability efforts for the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, pledged on Thursday during the high-profile gathering chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, where representatives from dozens of nations convened to coordinate reconstruction and relief efforts for Gaza.

In his address to the assembly, Sheikh Abdullah expressed gratitude for the international collaboration and emphasised the significance of peace, particularly as the region enters the holy month of Ramadan. “I really hope that the beginning of Ramadan will give us all guidance towards peace, coexistence and living in prosperity with each other,” he said.

President Trump highlighted the collective contributions of member states, noting that Gulf nations and other countries had together pledged more than $7 billion for the relief package, with the United States committing an additional $10 billion.

The Board of Peace, positioned as a cornerstone of a 20-point peace plan aimed at Gaza’s recovery, is tasked with overseeing the transition to a fragile ceasefire phase, including the disarmament of militant groups and the reconstruction of infrastructure devastated by years of conflict.

The UAE has been a prominent humanitarian actor throughout the crisis, delivering substantial aid, including medical support and critical supplies, and hosting Gazans in need of urgent medical care. The latest financial commitment builds on its longstanding support for alleviating suffering and fostering long-term recovery in the region.

Sheikh Abdullah was joined at the meeting by senior UAE officials, including Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy and UAE Ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba, in reinforcing the nation’s diplomatic and humanitarian engagement on the global stage.

The inaugural Board of Peace session marked a coordinated international effort to accelerate relief, reconstruction and conditions conducive to sustainable peace for Gaza after years of devastating conflict.
