The rotation of the earth determines most things of everyday life, including day and night, climate and ocean currents. Based on scientific understanding, should Earth somehow cease spinning but remain orbiting the Sun, the consequences on the planet would be stark and immediate and far more severe on the atmosphere, land and oceans, and climate – even than on the survival of most living organisms on September 28th.
