Will the Solar Eclipse Impact Eid Moon Sighting in the UAE?

Ramadan skies are setting up for a dazzling display, with a mix of lunar and solar eclipses adding to the excitement of the holy month. But with a partial solar eclipse occurring on March 29—coinciding with the sighting of the Eid crescent—many are wondering if it could affect the process.

Will the Solar Eclipse Interfere With Eid Moon Sighting?

The UAE’s Moon-sighting committee will be scanning the skies for the Shawwal crescent as usual. However, while the partial solar eclipse will be visible in parts of North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, it won’t be seen in the UAE.

More importantly, astronomy experts confirm there’s no reason for concern. The Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) explains that solar eclipses happen during the day, whereas the Eid crescent can only be spotted after sunset—meaning the eclipse won’t interfere with the sighting.

Skywatching Highlights This Ramadan

Even though the upcoming eclipses won’t be visible from the UAE, stargazers still have plenty to look forward to.
