Solar Storm Collision Course: Understanding the Science Behind Cannibal CMEs

The sun has been very active and it has made numerous coronal mass ejections (CMEs). These are massive pushes of a hot gas and magnetic fields of the outer layer of the sun. A special type of CME is known as a cannibal CME where a faster CME overtakes a slower one to form a larger and stronger cloud. A recent CME of this kind is heading towards the earth due to a rather active sunspot zone.
