All flights between Dubai and Iran scheduled for January 9 have been cancelled, leaving travellers scrambling to adjust plans as unrest continues across the country.

Flydubai Confirms Full-Day Cancellations

Flydubai confirmed that all its Iran-bound flights on Friday were called off. The airline said it is directly contacting affected passengers and keeping a close eye on the situation before making further schedule decisions.

Travellers were advised to double-check flight statuses through the airline’s website, contact centre, travel shops, or their travel agents for rebooking options.

At Least 17 Flights Cancelled from Dubai

According to the Dubai Airports website, at least 17 flights from Dubai to Iranian cities — including Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad — were cancelled. No official reason was listed on the airport’s site.

Protests and Internet Blackout in Iran

The cancellations come as nationwide protests over economic hardship, which began in late December, continue to rock Iran. Reports also pointed to a countrywide internet blackout on Thursday that stretched into Friday, as authorities moved to curb the growing demonstrations.

Other Airlines Also Hit Pause

It’s not just Dubai flights feeling the impact. Turkish media reported that Turkish Airlines cancelled 17 flights, while Ajet called off six. Budget carrier Pegasus Airlines also cancelled services to Iranian cities.
Meanwhile, at least two flights between Doha and Tehran scheduled for Friday were cancelled, according to Hamad International Airport’s website.
