The iPhone 17 isn’t even out yet, but UAE residents are already lining up—well, digitally. Apple’s big reveal is set for September 9, with the device expected in stores by the third week of September. But in places like Deira and Sharjah, people are already paying Dh500 deposits just to make sure they’re among the first to flaunt it.
It’s About Bragging Rights
For many, upgrading their phone isn’t the real deal—it’s all about being first. “Getting the iPhone on day one is a proud moment,” said Moideen Mustafa, manager at Phone Line in Deira. Customers are even traveling from other emirates—and some from abroad—just to secure a spot on the list and claim those first-day bragging rights (and Instagram posts).
Curiosity Is Off the Charts
Retailers say it’s not just about pre-orders. Walk-ins are asking daily about the price, specs, and whether Apple’s finally going to shake up the design. “Some even joke that we have a secret line to Apple,” said Tayyab Hassan from Smart 'Phone'tic in Sharjah. But like everyone else, shopkeepers are waiting for the official reveal.
The Big Question
Will early birds actually get their iPhone 17 on launch day? Retailers aren’t making promises, but they expect to deliver to at least a few of their first-in-line customers. Either way, the hype cycle has already begun—and with whispers of a sleeker design, better battery, and upgraded cameras, the frenzy is only getting louder.
